White Wines Of France: Chablis, Burgundy
The region of Chablis (5’462 ha) is known for producing some of the best white wines of France from 100% Chardonnay. But did you know that in the Chablis region of France, Burgundy there exist 4 AOC/ AOP(Apellation d’Origine Controlle/Protegee ).
- Petit Chablis – outer areas around the town of Chablis. Tend to have higher acidity and more tart, citrus flavours.
- Chablis – Closer toward the village of Chablis. More Citurs, pear and exaggerated mineral notes.
- Chablis Premier Cru – only 15% (780ha) of Chablis vineyards have Premier Cru status. Have richer fruit profiles with lemon flavours and stronger minerality.
- Chablis Grand Cru – Just 104ha of land in the region of Chablis. The taste of these wines is highly dependent on producer.
